Privacy policy
The short version: we only collect what we need to answer you and run the service, we never sell your information, and there is no camera and no recording in the home. The longer version is below, in plain English, because a service built on trust should be plain about this too.
Check On Mum is a service of Alien IT Solutions (ABN 44 619 802 201). This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988.
What we collect
- When you contact us. Your name, phone number, email, and whatever you choose to tell us in your message.
- When you visit the site. Standard analytics such as the pages you view, rough location and device type, through Google Analytics, plus basic server logs our host keeps for security.
- If you become a customer. The details we need to set up and support the system, and the alert events it produces, such as a fall or a wellbeing alert with the time and the room. There is no camera, no photo, no video and no audio. The sensor detects movement and falls, not images.
How we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and explain your options, including funding.
- To set up, run and support the monitoring you have asked for, including sending alerts to the people you choose.
- To keep the website working and secure.
We do not use your details for unrelated marketing, and we do not sell or rent them to anyone.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services we use to run Check On Mum, and only as far as they need it to do their job:
- Our hosting and content network (Cloudflare), which serves the website.
- Google Analytics, which gives us aggregate figures on how the site is used.
- Our messaging provider, which delivers your enquiry to us and delivers alerts to the people you nominate.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to help in an emergency. Otherwise, your information stays with us.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure how the site is used. You can refuse cookies in your browser, or use the Google Analytics opt out, and the site will still work.
Keeping your information
We keep enquiry details only for as long as we need them to help you, and customer records for as long as we support the system, after which we remove them. We take reasonable steps to protect what we hold. By design, the monitoring runs locally in the home, which keeps personal information close to where it belongs.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Just contact us using the details below and we will sort it out. If you are ever unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first, and if we cannot resolve it you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
One important note
Check On Mum is a safety and wellbeing aid. It is not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for emergency help. In an emergency, always call 000.
